Documentary short on Eileen Chang

Eileen Chang was a popular Chinese novelist around the 1950s. She wrote the novel “Lust, Caution” that was recently adapted into a film by Ann Lee (involving some controversial nudity).

In the video interview above, Roland describes her as someone writing free from the shackles of politics, as someone describing “petty bourgeois” life — which inadvertently led her to become popular with modern middle class.
